How To Clean A Bronze Church Bell
As the title should say brass and or statuary, I am trying to figure out how to clean an old bell at my local church. We practice non want to use a grinder to clean information technology either. I am bold this bell is well-nigh equally old as the church its self (200 years) the reason. We are redoing the base of operations that the bell sits on and thought information technology would be nice to be able to take the bell make clean for when celebrate 200 yr of our church being there.
cheers, Dave

To clean old bras, utilise the delicate cycle with a gentle detergent similar Woolite, or manus launder. Air dry out for best results.
Tin can't help you lot with the bong.
In reply to Volksrodden:
Just throw the old bras in a washer. Every bit for even having bronze balls(sp), my chapeau's off to yous, sir.
edit; likewise slow!
Now I'grand confused, Bras And Brass Balls? I thought information technology was either or.

Yous are seeking help on cleaning old bras from a agglomeration of car guys? Just how dirty are the women y'all date anyway?
I dont business concern myself with cleaning them, just getting them on the floor.
Yous tin have the bell dunked / electrolysis /sonic cleaner then polished pretty inexpensive. But honestly unless it is pitted actually bad a quick shine with some brass cut will work wonders.
I don't accept a inkling how to bargain with the bras.

Wife deals with the bras, I stay abroad from that laundry.
You poor bastard. You are gonna become exactly no useful information, all for the want of a second "S".

^^^This!! Cleaning the bell erases the evidence that it is 200 years old. Plus the fact that the patina is protecting the bell from further deteriation.
If I had to choose, I'd go with the bras. So much less lifting involved.

that has a good ring to information technology. I wouldn't impact it either
Any potential for humor has been mined from this thread.
As for the bell, I encounter 2 approaches.

Yous've got 200 years of irreplaceable patina. Make the base really perfect and cute and then it emphasizes the historic period, resilience, permanence and solidity of the old bell. Leave information technology exist.

You go voted down and have to clean it. Submerge it in a solution of water and muriatic acid. This is used for cleaning crusty bronze marine hardware and castings. It'll remove all the greenish stuff. Follow upward with stainless steel brushes and Scotchbrite pads. Information technology's possible, albeit irksome to buff the entire thing afterwards that using cloth+felt wheels and buffing compounds to restore it to a mirror polish - but it'll tarnish and turn brownish so green somewhen.
Nosotros cleaned and polished a lot of contumely in i of my one-time jobs, and orange or tomato juice worked as well as or better than almost annihilation for cleaning. Try it yourself side by side fourth dimension you get a taco, hot sauce on a penny and information technology'll look new minted before you finish your snack.

What you lot did there, I see it.
http://americanbell.org/forum/index.php?c=9 In particular, the large bells forum. It's where people who are actually into church bells hang out and discuss the care and feeding of them.
